Many years ago, when the ancient laws of Alchemy governed the rising of the sun and the setting of the moon, there lived a young magician who went by the name of Qwyfyx.
Recently graduated from the Gildenthorne Academy of Magic, Qwyfyx was spending the day trying to sell some odds and ends in the market square. So far he had sold nothing at all. It was true that, with the aid of his crystal ball, he had helped a little girl find her lost dog, but he didn't have the heart to charge her. When the clock struck six, Qwyfyx heard the clatter of hooves and to his astonishment the King rode right up to the stall. Now the King was a big, powerful man and Qwyfyx knelt on the ground in what he thought was a respectful manner. |

"Stop grovelling, I have a job for you!" thundered the King. Slowly, knees shaking, Qwyfyx stumbled to his feet. "Oh yes, Great King, anything at all, Your Majesty." "Call yourself a magician eh! Well, young man, I am about to give you a task to see if you really are a magician." "A task?" "A great task, a task which has baffled the minds of the finest wizards, alchemists and sorcerers in the land, many of whom have lost their lives as punishment for their failure." |

"What, er, what exactly is the great... "Task! The task is... Um, now the great task... Well blow me, you know it was on the tip of my tongue, now where did it go? Well, never mind, I'm sure you will find out soon enough." Qwyfyx's knees were trembling more than ever. "But, Great King, I am just out of Magic School." But the King wasn't listening and he reached into a voluminous coat pocket and and withdrew a strange, starry disk. |
