The Garden The Garden

l The air outside the tomb was fresh and filled with the fragrant scent of many flowers. Feeling immensely relieved, Qwyfyx stood for a while and surveyed the sunny landscape. In a great oak tree on a steep hillside, he saw a featherless young bird chase its mother from a nest. A butterfly gently landed on his nose, then fluttered away, and Qwyfyx saw silvery carp lazily swimming in a nearby pond.

When he had recovered from his ordeal, he drank from a babbling brook. He could see many stones beneath the clear, flowing water but he felt certain they were just rocks and nothing more. Continuing his journey, he followed the stream down the hillside until he came to a beautiful garden. Gradually, he worked his way through a hedge maze until he came to a great house. Qwyfyx was becoming very hungry and he thought that perhaps here he could get some food. He knocked on all the doors but there was no reply. He even tried the windows, but the curtains were drawn and the house remained silent.

For a while, tired and still hungry, Qwyfyx sat in front of the house, looking gloomily at the distant mountains. He was startled when, out of the corner of his eye, he thought he saw a faint light in the sky. But when he looked directly at it, it was gone. Filled with curiosity, he picked up his bag and, with Midnight at his heels, began to walk towards the peaks ahead.
